Polyester Resin Uses

Polyester resin is commonly used in the building industry for applications such as glassfibre roofing, and also in the manufacturing industry to manufacture glass fibre reinforced molding trims used on glassfibre roofing jobs such as the parapit edge trim. These trims are generally produced in a grey colour but with the addition of colour pigments in the manufacture process they can be produced virtually in any colour. Polyester resin moldings are among the most cost effective and generally efficient of all the molding resin types. The resin is used to bind the layers of glass fibre matting to form a tough laminate surface.Fibre Glass Flat Roofing

How is it used?

Polyester resin is also used in the manufacture and repair of marine boat hulls, surfboards and other sea vessels, and can even be used for patching up cracks, and holes to ensure water tightness. With the addition of fire or chemical retardants and UV stabilizers the scope of use for this resin is almost endless. The procedures involved in using polyester resin for jobs such as marine patch-ups or fiberglass roofing is generally seen as something even an amateur could attempt, as long as all the manufacturer’s chemical instructions are followed, and its carried out in the right weather etc, and good health and safety practices are adhered to, such as wearing suitable gloves, clothing, and even breathing apparatus.
