When choosing the materials for your project it is important to remember the numerous benefits plastic materials have over other materials. Below is a list of the benefits of using plastics, why it is widely used in the construction trade, and why it wins hands down over other materials:-

Durability – plastics do not corrode, and are highly resistant to rot, decay, and Marine Borer attack. Plastic will sustain weathering, far more so than wooden soffits, and fascias for example, due to the resilient materials it is made of.

Workability –   It has good workability, and can be shaped and worked using conventional woodworking tools.Guttering

Sustainable –Plastics are often considered a sustainable material, because they can be made using recycled plastics, and the waste products of the wood industry. They can also be recycled easily in a new wood-plastic composite, much like concrete.

Versatility - Another advantage is the ability of the material to be molded to meet almost any desired shape. For example, plastics can be bent and fixed to form strong arching curves.

Time Saving -Another major selling point of these materials is their lack of need for paint. They are manufactured in a variety of colors to meet individual preferences and requirements.

Low maintenance –Plastics are generally very easy to clean, and repair compared to other materials.

Stain Resistant -Some WPC formulations are sensitive to staining from a variety of agents.

Appearance – plastic looks clean, fresh and modern compared to traditional wooden materials such as  soffits and fascia. Using plastic materials on a building can greatly improve, and spruce up its appearance as well as adding value to a property.

Price – You can generally find plastic materials cheap in relation to other building materials.

As you can see the benefits of using plastic materials over other materials is clearly one sided – plastic wins hands down. If you are looking for a cheap resilient option I would highly recommend going for plastic materials, as they will last you a lot longer than for example a wooden option.
