How to Get the Best Price on Building Supplies

When it comes to buying anything, you want to make sure that you’re getting the best value for your money. Building supplies are no different, but how do you get the best prices on these items?

For many people in the trade, there will be one or two major suppliers who provide you with all you need and maybe a few other little ones that you use for specialist items. But how often do you actually stop and weigh up the price differences? Probably not as often as you should.

Checking prices doesn’t have to be difficult, here are some simple ways to save you money:

Shop Around

It may sound simple, but just by looking at what else is available and finding out prices across a range of suppliers could save you hundreds or even thousands on your project. While most suppliers will list their prices online, others you will have to call or ask for their catalogue. This means that finding out just how much each unit costs could take just minutes and save you a huge chunk of cash.

Be aware that prices will change over time or in relation to the demand for these products, so you should do this before placing an order to make sure you’re getting the best price.

Price Match

Some suppliers are so sure that they have the best prices around that they will happily offer a price match on anything found for the same price or cheaper elsewhere. Not only is this a great sign that the company has done the research to provide low cost products, it is also a great way to shave money off items if you can find them cheaper elsewhere.

Speedy Plastics and Resins doesn’t just offer a price match, if you do find the product cheaper elsewhere then we’ll refund you double the difference! You can’t say better than that can you?

Buy in Bulk

If you have the cash available and you need a large quantity of materials then it almost always pays off to buy in bulk as you can get some great discounts through this. Many merchants will be happy to take less profit of each individual unit when you’re ordering in bulk, saving you a large amount of money overall. It is always worth asking if there are bulk buy discounts available and what the limit is for these to come into effect.

 Price vs Quality

This is something you need to be firmly aware of, as cheaper is not always better. Some building materials can be a false economy as they do not offer the quality, durability or aren’t as robust as you need them to be. If you do end up purchasing shoddy materials then they will need to be replaced more frequently and will not offer the same quality finish – this can end up costing you a lot more in the long run, eliminating any savings made by cutting corners.
