How to Install Guttering and Downpipes

The installation of a new guttering system, be it in part or the whole system, will transform the look of any building whether it’s a domestic house, business premises or even just a garden shed, or garage.

Once your list of replacement materials have been compiled and you are ready to order, make a list of the tools needed for the job such as a saw, measuring tape, fixing screws, pencil for marking, and don’t forget a good quality safe ladder! So, without further ado, let’s take a look and how to install guttering and downpipes!

Don’t forget we sell virtually everything you need for this job, so check out our other products whilst you are compiling your order. Mike and the boys will be more than happy to help with your order if needed, so don’t hesitate to ask.

Moving on to the fitting of the new system, firstly using a safe means of reaching the high points of the building such as a good quality ladder that’s safely supported preferably by someone at the foot of the ladder, or scaffolding set safe and secure would be even better as more than one of you can then work and assist with the installation.

Begin by carefully removing the old system making sure to place it down onto the ground safely and then unscrewing all the old fixing screws trying not to ruin the screw holes so to be able to use them to support the new screws of the new system.

Using a tape measure you can now work out how long you need your new gutters then using the tape and saw you can cut them to size. By carefully assembling the gutters into place preferably with the help of an assistant you can now hopefully secure them into place using the original screw holes placing the brackets in exactly the same places. Then attach all the relevant stop ends and outlets screwing them again into the original holes.

Moving onto the downpipes now, doing the same with the tape measure you can measure and cut the pipe(s) to size and again (preferably using your helper to hold the pipe in place) attach it to the underside of the running outlet and clip the pipe brackets over the pipe and secure the pipe against the house wall using hopefully again the same original screw holes/wall plugs. Finally at the bottom of the downpipe you can either allow it to fall straight into a drain or if needed you can redirect the water using a shoe if the flow of water needs to go in another direction.

The entire job could be done in a couple of hours especially if two of you are working together and if you’ve had to pay for the scaffolding hire then why not make the most of the opportunity and check if your fascia’s need replacing also or even just a good clean and polish using our excellent range of plastic cleaning products.

Even just doing a clean and polish along with the new gutter system will transform your building and look amazing. Here at Speedy we’ve helped thousands of customers achieve such results, so get in touch on (0844) 8586670 and transform your home now!
