Does your pond look like its seen better days and in need of sprucing up to bring it back to life?

Here is a list of measures you can take to bring your pond back to its former glory.

The Basicsfirstly there are some basic and simple steps you can take to make your pond look more attractive. By surrounding the pond with some foliage or adding new, fresh water plants such as water lilies can not only add a bit of colour, and liven up your existing pond, but also attract wildlife. You could also try adding some ornaments to the outskirts of the pond to give it that unique touch and make it more interesting.

Water feature – Add a water feature to your current pond to add that bit of life with the constant flow of water. Feel relaxed as you enjoy the sound of trickling water flowing from a ready-made feature you simply add to your pond or why not go that step further, and create you very own waterfall.

Seal any cracks– Use a sealant such as G4 Pond Sealer to seal an entire pond, or the most common use of sealing any exposed mortar around any brickwork or stonework that surrounds the pond and waterfall areas. This will not only help ensure any harmful lime does not filter into the pond but also increase the resistance of the treated surfaces from weathering keeping your pond lively for longer.

Re-line the pond -This type of sealant can be used to seal an entire pond but this would work out quite expensive, certainly more than using a flexible pond liner. The most common use is for sealing the exposed mortar around flags, brickwork and stonework around the pond, stream and waterfall areas. This will ensure that harmful lime does not leach into the pond and will also improve the resistance of the treated surface to weathering. Glass fibre (GRP) is an excellent, and very suitable material for the use in lining fish ponds. Not only is GRP resistant to weathering, and temperature variations, but also provides a water tight, smooth and easy to clean surface.

If you do decide to re-line your pond it is always advisable to seek professional advice to ensure the methods, and products used are not toxic to fish.
