Budget-Friendly Ideas for Decorating the Outside of the Home

Making your house look great from the outside doesn’t have to be a big expensive job. There are lots of little things you can do to really increase the curb appeal and add value to your home, without breaking the bank.

Here are a couple of low cost ideas for decorating your home’s exterior:

Add a Splash of Colour

Is your garden really boring to look at? Is anything going on at all or is it simply grey concrete or green grass? You’d be surprised by the difference adding a little bit of colour can make to the aesthetic appeal of your abode. Depending on your ability as a gardener this can either be done through a well-kept flower bed, a dedicated wild patch or even by simply painting the fence or garden furniture a bright, vibrant colour.

Cost: The best thing about adding colour is it is very cheap. Growing a wild flower garden can be free and planting your own flowers can still cost less than £20 – depending on the paint you chose to use, you’ll probably be looking at around £20-30.Outside of the house

New, Brighter and Better

You’d be surprised how much difference getting bright, clean new fascia and soffit can make. It can turn your home from looking like a rundown, well-worn house into a tidy and fashionable place that’s the envy of the neighbourhood. While it may be initially cheaper to buy wooden features, once you factor in how long they last and the price of upkeep you’ll quickly realise that quality UPVC items pay for themselves.

Cost: You can pick up 150mm x 8mm fascia boards for as little as £6.95. Doing the entire house is going to cost a little more, but you won’t have to pay anything else towards this for a long time making it a good investment.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

If you have a small or crowded garden, then adding mirrors can make a huge difference to the way your garden feels. A large mirror surrounded in greenery will give the impression that your garden area is much larger than it actually is. You are also able to angle them so that you maximise the light in your garden, keeping the whole area bright late into the evening. If you’re feeling really creative then why not set them out like old window frames so that it feels like your garden has a great view?

Cost: Depending on the size and style of the mirror you’re after, the price will greatly differ. The most budget options tend to start at around £10 with prices soaring way into the hundreds for bigger and more resilient mirrors.

Spot the Difference

Do you live on an estate where all the homes look very similar? Making little changes to the outside of your home can give it a bespoke feel, making it much more appealing to people on the outside. Doing things like planting hedges, making room for more parking, painting your garage or front doors or deciding to render the walls can add a lot of value to your home.

Cost: Granted these aren’t things that you can do for very cheap, although hedges and painting will easily come in under £100, but they can tack on a lot of value. Adding in little touches can make some difference, but the big expensive changes are bound to make a large impact.
