UPVC Soffit BoardsAs any mildly experienced DIYer will be able tell you, there are plenty of jobs which take forever and a day and which, once completed, make very little difference to the appearance of your home. However, fitting new soffits and fascias is one task which provides plenty of bang for your buck. Not only are replacement soffits and fascias cheap, they are also easy to fit, which means you can revitalise the appearance of your home without any professional assistance or breaking the bank.

Of course, if you have no idea how to fit a soffit, then no matter how cost effective the project, it’ll still look amateurish, which is precisely why we have produced this bullet pointed, no-nonsense guide.

Hold onto your hats, here we go...

•    Your first job is to remove the first course of tiles, dispose of the old guttering and cut back any old felt. You can then easily remove the old fascias and soffits.

•    If it is necessary you should add extra timber supports to the front and rear of rafters. Before adding the timber it should be treated with a good quality dry and wet rot preservative.

•    Install the new soffit board. Whether you opt for a standard 10mm UPVC soffit, wood grain soffit, ventilated soffit or hollow soffit is down to you. Current building regulations state that new builds should include a ventilation system to allow air to pass into and out of the house, however, when replacing soffits this decision is down to you.

•    Install the new UPVC or wood grain fascia boards using stainless steel fixings.

•    To avoid pooling and streaking a ridged eaves tray should be installed. This can be fitted under the existing felt and will do the job of directing water directly into the guttering system. To prevent our feathered friends making a home in your roof you may then wish to install bird combs.

•    And the final job, install some brand new guttering if yours has seen better days and fit replacement tiles.

And there we have it; how to fit soffits in six easy steps. All you need now is to buy the equipment you’ll need, and low and behold, we have a great range of soffits, fascia boards and more at Speedy Plastics and Resins at the best prices available online.
