Soffit boardsBefore we go into how to put up a soffit, I think it is important first to discuss what a soffit is, what it does and the different types of soffit available. Usually the soffit can be found between the fascia board and the house wall. It offers protection against the elements and can also house various ventilation applications to allow a through flow of air.

At Speedy Plastics and Resins, we supply three different types of UPVC soffit board. The first is a 10mm solid soffit board which comes in a selection of widths, from 100mm all the way up to 405mm, and in a selection of colours and finishes. If required this product can be augmented with two ventilation products i.e circular vents and a 5m vent strip. The next soffit is a 10mm pre-vented soffit. This product is the same in specification to the first, but because of the ventilation slots it does away with the need for circular or strip vents. This product is available in a selection of widths, from 100mm to 405mm, and comes in a standard white colour. The third type is a hollow soffit (see enclosed image). This is 300mm wide, 5m long, comes in a selection of colours and is supplied with matching trims. This is probably the most economical type of soffit stocked by Speedy Plastics and Resins but it is still more than up to the job. Fitted correctly it will last for years and give your job a professional, clean finish.

Now that we have discussed the various types of soffit supplies by Speedy Plastics and Resins, we can look towards the installation of the product. As a basic guide, solid soffit boards can be fixed directly to the noggin or batten with plaspins. For a professional look, use J trims to hold and create a neat finish to the inside edge of the soffit at the wall. If you have a hollow soffit they can alternatively be used in short lengths from the wall to the fascia.
