With high summer upon us and the sun shining, now is a great time to tackle all of those outside jobs that were put on hold in the winter. One of these jobs is the replacement of your existing soffit boards.Blog 7 Soffitt

One of the first rules of maintenance, irrespective of what kind of maintenance it is, is to check the outside of your property on a regular basis. If you only look at your fascias, and soffits, when there is a problem, it is too late. It is far better to get on your ladder, and check two or three times a year, so problems can be addressed early, and in doing so, often problems can be solved in a more cost effective manner.

Before we discuss how to replace a soffit, I think it is best to look at the range of soffit boards that Speedy Plastics and Resins offer. We keep in stock hollow soffit in various colours, which is probably our most cost effective soffit. We also have solid, and vented soffits in stock, in various colours and widths.

Once you have selected which PVC soffit you require, and have taken delivery of this from Speedy Plastics and Resins, you are ready to start your job. Firstly remove the existing soffit board, and check to make sure that the soffit bearers behind are in good condition. If they are not they will need to be replaced also.

The next step is to install your new soffit board by nailing it to the soffit bearers using stainless steel plastic headed poly pins. The soffit board can be joined using a joint trim, which slots effortlessly between the two boards, to give a continuous soffit line. One key point to remember, while fitting your soffit board, is to ensure a minimum gap of 6mm is left at the end of each soffit board, to allow for expansion, and contraction, and to ensure adequate ventilation to the roof void.
